Shop Review - A little bit of home comfort on the Costa Calida

The Olive Press extends distribution into Costa Calida's Mazarrón - Olive Press News Spain

  

When I moved to Spain one of the things I was most looking forward to was the array of local fresh fruit, veg and fresh fish but every now and again a little pang of homesickness can easily be cured with a few UK creature comforts and The Food Company (official stockiest of Tesco) is the perfect place to fulfil any craving.

With all your favourite UK brands under one roof and at reasonable prices, it really is a great new addition to our shopping choices here in El Puerto de Mazarron. 

When you first enter the shop there is a small section of fresh fruit and veg and bakery items, although I have to admit the Spanish supermarkets and local markets have a much wider range and at more reasonable prices but it´s handy to just nip in and get everything in one go.

Next though we move onto all the good stuff and believe me there is plenty.

 

 
 

The store is well laid out, clearly signposted and labelled in English. The staff are really helpful and a mixture of English and Spanish speaking - which is great, if like me to try and use Spanish as much as possible but do get stuck from time to time. 

 

 
 

Whether you´re looking for Warburton's Crumpets, Oxo Cubes or Heinz Baked Beans you will not be disappointed. The range of cleaning products, toiletries, food, drink and household items make it easy to do your shop all in one place or just pop in for those bits and pieces from home, you simply can't live without.  

 


I love the fact that we have so much choice for shopping here in Mazarron but I also love the fact that when I am feeling under the weather I can buy proper home comfort food or have the ease of trying a new recipe and not having to hunt for unusual ingredients in Spanish.

A final thing about this store is their diverse range of Freefrom products. As someone with a lactose intolerance I've found the Spanish supermarkets way exceed those in the UK with their diversity in this area but it is nice to see The Food Company giving this range a large and prominent section in store. Below is just an example but they have many more products in store.

THE COSTA CALIDA - The Warm Coast

    The Costa Calida is the coastline of Murcia and runs from the North near Alicante, down to the South bordering with Almeria. Well know areas along this coast include the Mar Menor, Aguilas, Mazarron and Cartegena to name just a few. The original airport serving the Costa Calida (on my first arrival) was San Javier, a military airport also serving civilians. In January 2019 Murcia International Airport opened, which along with Alicante Airport provides an important gateway to our beautiful home.      Host to several mountain ranges, outstanding golf courses, national parks and spectacular coastlines, activities are plenty or if you prefer you can while the day away with stunning views, beautiful Mediterranean food, a cafe con leche or something stong if you wish - you really are spoilt for choice!        With an array of Spanish villages, cities, ports, harbour towns and ex-pat urbanisations there is something for everyone....

Bar Review - Tel's Bar, Camposol

This bar is a great little hangout, with a positive, fun vibe to it and plenty to offer during hot sunny days, late warm evenings and even on the cooler or wetter days. Located on Camposol Sector A, Leanne has a fantastic established team by her side and has been running Tel´s for many years now.  Whether you are looking for a full English breakfast, a quiz, music entertainment or just a good drink and chatter this is a great place for all.   I have spent many an afternoon or evening with friends, enjoying the relaxed environment and a glass of something cold.  Nothing is ever too much trouble for Leanne and I have seen her go out of her way on many occasions for her customers - I've even seen her give some of them a lift home to save them a long walk!
