Markets of Mazarrón & Surrounding Areas

There is nothing I love more than the hustle and bustle of a busy Spanish market and this was one of the things I missed most during the Covid restrictions.

Although it has taken a long while to get them all back up and running, we now have a great selection of markets here on our doorstep in Mazarrón - below is a little about each of the markets locally, including their locations and the day they are on....

Camposol Market is located on Sector A of Camposol, in the large car park opposite the Bodega. It takes place early on Thursday morning and lasts until around lunch time. There are usually somewhere between about a dozen and 20 stalls, although this seems to be building back up again now. The stalls consist of fruit & veg, clothes, handbags, jewellery, sunglasses, belts, garden lighting, fresh flowers, golfing equipment and generally the things you would expect to find on a small to midsize market. Personally for me the best thing about it is the Fruit & Veg, as it lasts so much better than the supermarkets and a lot cheaper but also the wonderful cafes/bars around there to stop off at for a coffee or a bit of lunch. Can highly recommend Ana's, Cat's, Tels and Rendezvous.

Mazarrón Town Market is located just off Av. Constitución, under the Iglesia Convento de la Purísima. On non-market days, this is the main car park in the main square of Mazarrón Town and takes place on Saturday mornings until lunch time. I would say there are probably around 30-40 stalls, when it is running at full capacity and they consist of fruit & veg, olives and pickles, herbs and spices, cooked chickens, sweets and snacks, clothes, toys, handbags, shoes, belts, sunglasses, hats etc. The best bit about this market is the traditional Spanish town feel and the excuse for a Saturday morning beer and tapas in Bar Luis, just on the edge of the market next door to the church.

El Puerto de Mazarrón Market is located on the land behind the Centro Salud and underneath the Ramada Hotel, formerly La Cumbre Hotel. I would say this is the largest of the local markets with over upwards of 60 stalls and stocks a great range of fruit & veg, olives, pickles, herbs and spices, cooked chickens, sweets, snacks, nuts, clothes, toys, handbags, shoes, belts, sunglasses, hats, bedding, garden stuff, beach stuff, cushions etc. The best thing about this is the true hustle and bustle of a Spanish market, the varied choice, the best cooked chickens and plenty of parking.

The Indoor Fish Market/The Plaza de Abastos is located just off Av. Dr Meca, just next to the bus station and is open Monday to Saturday 8am until 2pm. In the summer months they also open 6 - 8pm.  There is plenty of parking all around the building itself and it houses several great fish stores, as well as other produce including a brilliant little organic store. Apart from the great fresh produce here, the next best bit is that over the Christmas and 3 Kings holiday they turn this into an indoor ice-rink!

The Paseo Artisan Market takes place, as the name suggests, on the paseo of El Puerto de Mazarrón, starting at the Golden Cafe. I understand it takes place on the third Saturday of every month, from 10am until 2pm, and has lots of handmade crafts and local artisan products. The best thing about this market is the beautiful setting and sea views, as well as the unusual products you can come across.

There are also markets located in Alhama de Murcia on Tuesdays and Totana on Wednesdays.

In addition to the above we are also lucky to have various art and craft fairs throughout the year, as well as additional markets and fairs around fiesta times and celebrations. Look out for the Christmas Fairs coming up shortly, they are always in partnership with an amazing charity and there are some great gift opportunities available. These can be found at Mariano's, Condado, The Country Club and Cee Jay's to name but a few.

And finally, if you fancy going a little further afield you can visit The Lemon Tree Market in Guardamar, El Raso. With its 300 odd stalls and large outdoor dining space, it is definitely worth a visit and you'll be sure to get the best Paella! This is open from 9am-2pm every Sunday and is a lovely day out.

Happy Shopping!
